On this intensive workshop I’m offering an insight into my business and distinctive shooting style in a three-day wedding photography business workshop held at the exclusive Hazlewood Castle near Leeds and York.
During the three day workshop we’ll look at important business areas such as Marketing, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Pricing, sales and albums – most of my packages include an album and you’ll see how this can really benefit your business, you’ll have hands on shooting time with models where we’ll use flash and natural light to create dramatic and stunning wow images. We’ll then edit some of these images whilst I explain my time saving workflow and edit process that allows me to edit a wedding in Lightroom in hours not days
THE ITINERARY
Day One Wednesday 8th – Marketing and shooting to sell
Start 09.30 Finish around 17.00
Introductions and a short slideshow of wedding images with coffee and croissants.
Shooting to sell –I’ll guide you through my wedding shot list and the pre-wedding preparations which help ensure smooth running of the wedding day and that I come away with album images and those my clients, their family, and friends will love and of course purchase.
Wedding Planning and managing expectations – How we manage our customers, their expectations, and how we handle Pinterest brides, heart-shaped groups or those who supply the dreaded massive group list.
Marketing – The whole cycle of marketing and how every aspect of your business can have a positive impact on your enquiry and booking rate. We’ll be looking at the vast array of social media opportunities, advertising, blogging, website, and of course Search Engine Optimisation as well as the all important client consultation where you turn the enquiry into the booking. All with minimum spend on advertising and marketing materials.
Search Engine optimisation – SEO – During this stage of the day I’ll explain some simple ways of boosting your website’s natural listings and help you become found more easily on Google searches. We’ll use a real world example of how we have helped a photographer rise through the listings with simple and easy to follow techniques that don’t require any additional spend and only the basics of technical knowledge. Day Two – Thursday 9th Practical photography day
Start 0900 Finish photography at 1600. Editing until late….. Staying back is optional
Equipment talk – look at the equipment used to create the wedding photographs and the logic behind packing each piece of kit ready for your wedding day. We’ll also discuss the importance of back up kit and the security of your files during and after the wedding day.
Model Shoot – Wedding: We’ll start with some preparation images of both the bride and groom. Bridal prep photos have long the norm with Groom prep a relatively new opportunity for increasing our coverage.
During this stage we’ll look at how I control the session and create the images in a natural way but a totally staged environment. Our shoot will then take us around the interior and exterior of Hazlewood Castle as we explore and look for the best locations available to us.
Day Three – Friday 10th Maximising your wedding photography turnover
Start 09.00 Finish around 16.30
Workflow – Lightroom and Photoshop – how to get the maximum impact from images and prepare gallery ready files as quickly as possible, how I import, cull and export a whole wedding in just a few hours . We’ll discuss the cull, edit and exporting in Lightroom before we give the images their final polish in Photoshop
I will demonstrate my most frequently used Photoshop workflow actions many of which are included within the free action pack for all attendees and live edit some of the images from the previous day.
Sales – Combining workflow and shooting to sell, I will explain how we have continued to sell prints and other products as well as our wedding albums. We’ll look at up-selling opportunities that exist pre and post wedding as well as a few simple ideas and tips that can really boost sales.
Wedding Albums and Collections – How we created our packages and how we chose the albums and suppliers that best fit our business, where it all fits into our style and how the wedding album becomes your best marketing tool. We’ll also look at up-selling and how moving away from the USB options will increase your bookings and turnover.
Available to view on the day will be lots of products from our suppliers, with albums and products from Graphistudio

Who can book – This course will cater to all skill levels from beginner to advanced. A good working knowledge of your camera and settings are essential to maximise the learning opportunities of this day.
Equipment Required – Camera with lenses from wide angle to medium telephoto (85mm plus) would be of the most benefit. A speedlite for on camera use. Waterproof clothing, weddings don’t stop if the weather’s bad and we’ll aim to shoot outdoors during the day.
Getting here – Close to the A1 and M1 and M62 Hazlewood Castle and Carlton Towers are easily reached by car. The nearest mainline train stations are Leeds and York with regular trains to and from London. The nearest airports are Leeds and Manchester.
Anyone wishing to stay overnight at Hazlewood Castle either the day before or on the day can book a special delegate rate of £80 per room bed and breakfast.
Conditions of booking: All monies paid are non-refundable. Images taken on the workshop maybe used for marketing purposes including website and print they cannot be used for qualifications or competition entries. Whilst we aim to cover the full itinerary for the day we cannot be held responsible if due to factors outside our control we are unable to complete any part of the day’s course.
